SunPower believes that its systems should not only generate clean energy but do so in the most environmentally friendly manner. From our sighting strategy to our deployment and end-of-life practices, SunPower is conscientious of the environment and always strives to build our solar power plants sustainably.
The SunPower philosophy around building solar sustainably is designed to maximise solar power output within the designated land parcels, with minimal disturbance to the landscape and biology of the area. Construction techniques that reduce or eliminate grading, roads and drainage ditches, combined with SunPower® Trackers enable SunPower® power plants to follow the contours of the land while leaving the topography and natural environment intact. SunPower also seeks the seeding of meadows, using vehicles with oversized tyres to minimise the footprint on fragile landscapes and specially designed screw-in stanchions that provide a stable foundation and require no topsoil removal. Once the SunPower solar power plant is up and running, we return the land to its original condition—or improve it—with a range of vegetation management techniques that include grazing, mowing, and dual-use farming.
SunPower strives to demonstrate that solar power generation can directly benefit the local communities. We are committed to communicating openly with stakeholders and integrating feedback into the development of a solar power plant. By hiring local labour and sourcing materials from the area, SunPower relies on the participation of its communities to realise the vision of clean, renewable solar energy.
